Dr. Xi Zhang

Texas A&M University, USA

Dr. Xi Zhang received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer science (Electrical Engineering-Systems) from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is currently an Associate Professor and the Founding Director of the Networking and Information Systems Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station. He was with the Networks and Distributed Systems Research Department, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hills, NJ, and with AT&T Laboratories Research, Florham Park, NJ. He has published more than 200 research papers. He received the U.S. National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2004. He is an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer. He received the Best Paper Awards in IEEE GLOBECOM 2007, IEEE GLOBECOM 2009, and IEEE WCNC 2010, respectively. Prof. Zhang is currently serving as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications, an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC) for the special issue on "Broadband Wireless Communications for High Speed Vehicles", a Guest Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine for the special issue on "Advances in Cooperative Wireless Networking". He has served as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC) for the special issue on "Wireless Video Transmissions", an Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters, a Guest Editor for IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine for the special issue on "next generation of CDMA versus OFDMA for 4G wireless applications". Prof. Zhang is serving as TPC Co-Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2013, Area TPC Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2012, the TPC Chair for IEEE GLOBECOM 2011, and has chaired numerous other ACM/IEEE premier conferences/symposia.


Dr. Santanu Das

Office of Naval Research, USA

Dr. Santanu Das is the Program Manager of Communications and Networking program within the C4ISR Dept. of Office of Naval Research, where he has broad responsibility for planning, executing and providing leadership for integrated Science & technology projects to develop new capabilities for Naval communication networks. In this role he also participates and serves as the Navy lead and subject matter expert with other DoD, national and international groups to coordinate and optimize S&T investments and technology transfer and transition to the fleet. Prior to joining ONR, Dr Das held various positions as a researcher, systems engineer, technical manager and department Director in areas of wireless and optical communications at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Whippany, NJ. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada and is a Fellow of IET (previously the IEE) and a senior member of the IEEE.


Dr. Mario Gerla

University of California at Los Angeles, USA

Dr. Mario Gerla is a Professor in the Computer Science Dept at UCLA. He holds an Engineering degree from Politecnico di Milano, Italy and the Ph.D. degree from UCLA. He became IEEE Fellow in 2002. At UCLA, he was part of the team that developed the early ARPANET protocols under the guidance of Prof. Leonard Kleinrock. He joined the UCLA Faculty in 1976. At UCLA he has designed network protocols including ad hoc wireless clustering, multicast (ODMRP and CODECast) and Internet transport (TCP Westwood). He has lead the ONR MINUTEMAN project, designing the next generation scalable airborne Internet for tactical and homeland defense scenarios. He is now leading several advanced wireless network projects under Industry and Government funding. His team is developing a Vehicular Testbed for safe navigation, content distribution, urban sensing and intelligent transport. Parallel research activities are wireless medical monitoring using smart phones and cognitive radios in urban environments. He has served as a Technical Program Committee member of many international conferences, and is active in the organization of conferences and workshops, including MedHocNet and WONS. He is on the Steering Committee of MobiHoc. He has chaired and cochaired several conferences including Mobicom in 2006 and most recently WoWMoM and IWCMC in 2011. He is on the IEEE TON Scientific Advisory Board.


Dr. Kang G. Shin

The University of Michigan, USA

Dr. Kang G. Shin is the Kevin & Nancy O'Connor Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His current research focuses on computing systems and networks as well as on embedded real-time and cyber-physical systems, all with emphasis on timeliness, security, and dependability. He has supervised the completion of 69 PhDs, and authored/coauthored more than 770 technical articles (more than 270 of these are in archival journals), one a textbook and more than 20 patents or invention disclosures, and received numerous best paper awards, including the Best Paper Awards from the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Autonomic Computing, the 2010 and 2000 USENIX Annual Technical Conferences, as well as the 2003 IEEE Communications Society William R. Bennett Prize Paper Award and the 1987 Outstanding IEEE Transactions of Automatic Control Paper Award. He has also received several institutional awards, including the Research Excellence Award in 1989, Outstanding Achievement Award in 1999, Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award in 2001, and Stephen Attwood Award in 2004 from The University of Michigan (the highest honor bestowed to Michigan Engineering faculty); a Distinguished Alumni Award of the College of Engineering, Seoul National University in 2002; 2003 IEEE RTC Technical Achievement Award; and 2006 Ho-Am Prize in Engineering (the highest honor bestowed to Korean-origin engineers). He has chaired several major conferences, including 2009 ACM MobiCom, 2008 IEEE SECON, 2005 ACM/USENIX MobiSys, 2000 IEEE RTAS, and 1987 IEEE RTSS. He is the fellow of both IEEE and ACM, and served on editorial boards, including IEEE TPDS and ACM Transactions on Embedded Systems. He has also served or is serving on numerous government committees, such as the US NSF Cyber-Physical Systems Executive Committee and the Korean Government R&D Strategy Advisory Committee. He has also co-founded a couple of startups.


Dr. Min Song

National Science Foundation, USA

Dr. Min Song is currently a Program Director in the Division of Computer and Network Systems, Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering, National Science Foundation. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Old Dominion University. Min received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toledo in 2001. His research interests include design, analysis, and evaluation of cognitive radio networks, wireless sensor networks, wireless mesh networks, wireless local area networks, and mobile ad-hoc networks. Minís professional career is comprised of a total 21 years of work experience in academia, government, and industry. Min joined Old Dominion University in June 2002. At ODU, he is the recipient of Excellence Research Award and has been awarded early tenure and promotion. He is the Founding Director of the Wireless Networking @ ODU Laboratory. In addition to his academic work, Min was also the Founding Director of a Networking System Division in an IT company, and launched an international journal and served as the Editor-in-Chief. Min has acted as an Editor or Guest Editor of 13 international journals, and served as a General chair, TPC chair, and TPC member for numerous international conferences. He is the recipient of NSF CAREER Award and the recipient of DOE GAANN Award. Min is an IEEE Senior member.
