General Instructions Regarding Paper Preparation

Submitted papers should be unpublished and must not be currently under review for any other publication, conference or workshop. Authors of accepted papers will need to sign an ACM copyright release form and present their paper at the conference. The Proceedings of the conference will be published by ACM Press and distributed at the conference; copies of the Proceedings will also be available for sale after the conference.

Please be sure your paper is formatted properly for submisison. In particular, please note the following format requirements:

  • Your submission must be in PDF or PostScript format. We cannot handle other strange formats such as Microsoft Word. Whatever text processor or formatter you use to write your paper (LaTeX, Microsoft Word, FrameMaker, etc.), please convert the output to PDF or PostScript before submission. Under Windows, for example, PDF files can be produced using the Adobe Acrobat product, and PostScript files can be produced using any Windows PostScript printer driver and checking the "Print to file" box in the "Print" window.
  • Your submission must be correctly formatted to fit on U.S. "Letter" size paper, which is 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Please be sure you have a reasonable margin (such as 1 inch) on all edges (top, bottom, left, and right) of each page. Under Windows, for example, in the "Page Setup" window, please select "Letter" (e.g., not "A4") for the paper size, and please set your margins appropriately for this paper size; also select "Letter" for paper size in the printer options (click on "Properties" from the "Print" window). Under Unix, if you are using "dvips" to produce PostScript, please be sure the paper size is set correctly (specify "-t letter" to force the paper size).
  • Paper submissions must be limited to 15 pages. Either single-column or double-column format is fine for submissions. The font size used in the text of your submission must be no smaller than 10 points. The line spacing should be single-space or more.
  • As described in the Call for Papers, all papers will be judged through double-blind reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. Please be sure your name does not appear on the paper or in the submitted PDF or PostScript file. This means that before submission, you must remove from the paper the authors' names, authors' affiliations, acknowledgements of funding sources, etc. Also, be careful how you refer to your own prior work in the paper. For example, do not describe your prior work with phrases like: "In prior work, we presented a routing protocol that ....". Instead, refer to your work in the third person, such as "In prior work, Smith presented a routing protocol that .... ".
  • We must be able to print your paper once it is submitted. Due to the large variety of systems available for formatting papers and producing PDF or PostScript, this is not always possible for some systems. To maximize the chances that your paper will print correctly, please use only standard printer fonts (e.g., Times Roman, Helvetica, etc.); other fonts may be used but must be included in the PDF or PostScript file.

Electronic Submission Process

We are using the EDAS software to handle the paper submission process. Please go to http://mobihoc.ee.ucla.edu/~edas to submit your paper. You would first need to register the paper by filling in author, title, and abstract information. Please do this at the earliest possible, and not wait till the deadline. Then you would be asked to upload the paper, which you should do by uploading the paper through the web browser. Despite the confusing message given by EDAS, you cannot submit paper via ftp or email - you must upload through the web browser. You may re-upload the paper as many times as you need to by logging in again into EDAS, but not beyond the deadline.

Submission of Tutorial Proposals

Please submit a tutorial proposal of at most 5 pages, including biographical sketches of the instructors, via email to the Tutorial Co-Chairs, Edward Knightly (knightly@ece.rice.edu) and Magda El Zarki (elzarki@uci.edu), by 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time on December 5, 2002. The proposal should should be in PDF format.

Submission of Posters
(Deadline: January 6, 2003, 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time)

Submissions for posters should be unpublished and must not be currently under review for any other publication, conference or workshop. Authors of accepted papers will need to sign an ACM copyright release form and present their poster at the conference. All poster submissions will be reviewed and their summaries will appear in the CD-ROM proceedings and SIGMOBILE's Mobile Computing & Communications Review (MC2R). Poster submissions consist of two parts -- a two-page summary, and a draft of the poster layout. Both parts of the submission must be in either PDF or Postscript format.

The summary must be formatted for US Letter (8.5" x 11") paper with 1" margins all around, 10 point font (minimum), and single line spacing (minimum) for the main text. The purpose of the summary is to evaluate the quality, interest and depth of the work to be presented. The summary is the primary item for review consideration.

The poster draft may be either a single sheet or multiple sheets (all 8.5" x 11"). The draft is meant to provide an initial impression of the organization and presentation of the work. It does not need to be a completed poster but needs to at least convey the flow and presentation of what will be the final poster. The final posters will be 1 x 1.25 meters.

The poster reviews will be made by the poster committee and will be double-blind. You must therefore be certain that there is no text on the summary or the draft poster that identifies the authors or their affiliations. This means that before submission, you must remove from the summary and the poster draft the authors' names, authors' affiliations, acknowledgements of funding sources, etc. Also, be careful how you refer to your own prior work in the paper. For example, do not describe your prior work with phrases like: "In prior work, we presented a routing protocol that ....". Instead, refer to your work in the third person, such as "In prior work, Smith presented a routing protocol that .... ".

IMPORTANT: The two-page summary of the poster and the poster draft will be submitted to DIFFERENT places. The summary will be submitted over the web using EDAS software at http://mobihoc.ee.ucla.edu/~edas (please select the MobiHoc Poster as the conference). The poster submission link will be enabled 3 weeks prior to the poster deadline. After you have successfully uploaded your summary, the poster draft should be mailed to the Poster Co-Chairs Songwu Lu (slu@cs.ucla.edu) and Jason Redi (redi@bbn.com) indicating the Paper ID that was assigned to the poster summary by EDAS.
