Dr. Toshi T. Doi

Dr. Toshi T. Doi is Executive Vice President, Executive Officer of Sony Corporation, General Manager of Life Dynamics Laboratory Preparatory Office, and Chairman of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.
He led the Sony project team that developed digital audio, invented the DASH(Digital Audio Stationary Head)format, for professional multi-channel studio recorders, and co-invented the Digital Audio Compact Disc with Philips.These accomplishments have earned him numerous international awards such as the Eduard Rhein Award, the Michel de Conda Award and the Audio Engineering Society Silver Medal Award for the development of the Compact Disc and DASH formats.
After completing his work in digital audio, Dr. Doi developed the NEWS workstation, Japan’s workstation market leader. Following that, Dr. Doi engaged in the development of autonomous robots, which led to the successful launch of AIBO, the world first full autonomous quadruped pet type robot, in 1999. This was followed by the humanoid robot SDR-3X in 2000, and SDR-4X in 2002.
He served as Deputy President in AES (Audio Engineering Society), 1982-1983, and also as Vice President in DAVIC (Digital Audio-Visual Council), 1997-1998.
Dr. Doi graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1964, and earned his doctorate from Tohoku University in 1972.
