Conference Hotel Venue

MobiCom 2002 will be held at the landmark Atlanta hotel, the Westin Peachtree Plaza - the tallest hotel in the western hemisphere. The hotel is situated in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

Rooms held for the conference are under the name ACM MobiCom. The conference rate is $159.00 for a single room and $179.00 for a double room. Please note that there are a limited number of rooms at this discount rate. The standard room rate after all the block booked rooms are reserved is $259.00.

Travel Information

The conference venue and the Atlanta downtown area is about a 25 minute drive from the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport (ATL).

MARTA
The cheapest option to get to the conference venue is via MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. Take a ride on MARTA from the airport for only $1.75 one way! MARTA has a rail station right inside Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. The station is located near the baggage claim area, at the North end of the Airport (South Station - S7). For the Westin Peachtree and the Wyndam Atlanta hotels, take the orange line to the Peachtree Center Station (N-1). Call 404-848-4711 for additional information.

Shuttle
You can also get to downtown via the Atlanta Airport Shuttle Service. You can board the shuttle in the ground transportation area outside baggage claim. The one-way fare is $14.00 (round-trip - $22.00). The shuttle service is available 6 AM - 12 midnight. You can call the shuttle at 770-932-9127 to prepay for your ticket.

Taxicabs
Taxicabs are available at a flat fare to get to the downtown from the airport. The flat fares are $25.00 (one person), $26.00 (two persons - $13.00 per person), $30.00 (three persons - $10.00 per person), and $40.00 (four persons - $10.00 per person).

The average temperature for late September is 80ºF during the day, and approximately 60ºF at night.


WLAN Configuration Information/
Computing Facilities

IEEE 802.11 wireless access will be available at the conference venue in addition to Ethernet ports. Participants will need to bring their own laptops with either internal or external IEEE 802.11/Ethernet cards.

The configuration for IEEE 802.11 is as follows:

  • 1) Network Name (SSID) = Mobicom
  • 2) No encryption required

Both the 11a and 11b network will set it this way. We would like to thank Proxim and NetVersant for providing WLAN services for MobiCom 2002.

An Internet booth with a limited number of desktops with Internet connectivity will be also available during the conference.


Dining

Westin Peachtree Plaza The revolving Sun Dial Restaurant on the 71st floor offers sophisticated American fare and an impressive 360-degree view of the city skyline. Its revolving bar, on the 73rd floor, is a good spot for cocktails and light fare. The Cafe restaurant, located in the atrium lobby, serves buffet and à la carte breakfasts. The Tivoli Coffee Bar is open daily for coffee, drinks, tea, sandwiches, and pastries. There's also the International Bar and the adjoining Sidewalk Cafe.
